Erie to Host Youth Hockey and Powerlifting Events This Weekend

Eerie Power

Erie will welcome athletes from across the region this weekend for two sporting events, the 14U AA Fall Showcase youth hockey tournament and the Eerie Power meet.

The first ever 14U AA Fall Showcase, organized by Lake Effect Hockey, will run Friday through Sunday at Flo Fabrizio Ice Arena.

The tournament will feature high level AA teams from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. Confirmed teams within this tournament include the CCYHA Blue Jackets, Compuware, Erie Jr. Otters, South Pittsburgh Rebellion and the Indian Hill Winter Club.

“This event allows 14U AA teams to compete at a high level while gaining exposure to help better their skills heading into the season,” said Jason Fowler, owner of Lake Effect Hockey. “Erie frequently hosts competitive youth hockey events like this one, which gives players consistent opportunities to develop and showcase their talent.”

Also taking place this weekend is the Eerie Power competition, sanctioned by the 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation. This powerlifting competition will take place Saturday at Sinai Sports. Doors will open at 8 a.m. with lifting beginning at 9 a.m.

The competition will feature 45 lifters. Participants will include men and women ranging in age from eight to 82 representing Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York. Athletes will compete in all weight classes, ranked by both age and bodyweight categories.

The winner will be determined by the total weight lifted across the three main lifts. Awards will take place following the final deadlift of the day with competition expected to conclude by 4 p.m.
