The Erie Sports Commission was recognized today as a finalist for the 2025 National Sports Commission of the Year (population under 500,000) and National Event Partnership of the Year awards by Sports ETA, the trade association for the sports tourism industry in the U.S. The announcement was made at the Sports ETA Symposium being held in Las Vegas, Nev.
More than 60 submissions across all award categories were received for consideration by Sports ETA from destinations throughout the U.S.
“Being named a finalist for these two national industry awards is an honor in itself and reflects the dedication of so many involved,” said Mark Jeanneret, executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “From the Erie Sports Commission staff and community partners to local, regional and national event organizers, this recognition speaks to a shared commitment to maintain Erie as a premier sports tourism destination.”
In 2025, the Erie Sports Commission set a new organizational record by hosting and/or supporting 86 events, generating more than $20 million in economic impact for the third time since its inception in 2013.
The Erie Sports Commission was also a finalist for the National Event Partnership of the Year award for its support of the 2025 CCA Women’s D2 Tip-Off Classic.
Hosted by Edinboro Athletics and Gannon University, the 2025 CCA Women’s D2 Tip-Off Classic took place Nov. 7-9. The eight-team preseason tournament featured three of the top five teams in the country, as ranked in the WBCA NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll.
