The Race of Champions will return to Lake Erie Speedway in North East for a two-day racing program on Friday and Saturday. The event will feature eight racing divisions, including the Race of Champions Modified Series. More than 180 cars are expected to compete with participants traveling from outside of Erie County including New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
Racing begins Friday at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. Saturday’s program begins at 6 p.m. with gates opening at 4 p.m. A practice session will also be held on Thursday. The Barber National Institute will host the Lake Erie Odyssey on Saturday at Waldameer Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The adapted obstacle course event is designed for teens and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, offering an accessible and supportive competition environment. Mercyhurst University will host the second weekend of the Mercyhurst Volleyball Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center, featuring Kent State, Niagara, Columbia and Mercyhurst in a six‑match slate. Friday’s schedule includes Kent State vs. Niagara at 10 a.m., Mercyhurst vs. Columbia at 1 p.m., Columbia vs. Niagara at 4 p.m. and Mercyhurst vs. Kent State at 7 p.m. Saturday’s matches begin with Columbia vs. Kent State at 11 a.m., followed by Mercyhurst vs. Niagara at 2 p.m. The invitational provides early‑season competition for participating programs as they prepare for conference play.
Flagship Dog Sports will host Scent Work trials on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, featuring 44 handlers and 57 dogs completing 375 runs across multiple levels. A total of 25 dog breeds will be represented, led by eight german shepherds and six border collies. Spectators are welcome, and volunteers are encouraged.
