The Erie Sports Commission announced today that applications are now being accepted for its Facility Matching Funds Program.

The program offers $75,000 in matching funds to enhance local sports facilities and support the development of sports infrastructure to increase sports tourism. The program aids projects that attract new sporting events or expand existing ones, thereby increasing the potential for economic impact. Since its inception in 2018, more than $240,000 has been awarded.

“Our goal is to continue supporting partner venues to building on our reputation as a leading destination for year-round sporting events,” said Mark Jeanneret, executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “We know how critical this funding is for venue operators to attract more events that help increase sports tourism for our community while at the same time improving facilities for local use. We look forward to reviewing applications and awarding grants that strengthen Erie’s role as a top sports tourism destination.”

Applicants can request matching funds up to $15,000, with requests of more than $15,000 considered in rare circumstances. Applicants must be located within Erie County and have facilities available to host tournaments or grow existing events that draw out-of-town participants.

All applications must be submitted by March 31.

Some past recipients include ASCEND Climbing, Erie Insurance Fields at McKean, Lake Erie Speedway, Lake Shore BMX and Sinai Sports.
