Lake Erie Cyclefest FAQ

When will the ride routes be posted? 

Ride routes will be posted on the Lake Erie Cyclefest page and emailed two weeks prior to the event.  

Is there GPS assistance for the routes? 

Yes, we offer RideWithGPS. All of the routes are available through this software.

Are there water and snack stations?

Water and snack stations will be on every ride over 10-miles.

Is Mechanical Assistance provided? 

814 Outdoors will be present for small repairs, tire changes, etc. There may be a fee for larger fixes.  

Are e-bikes allowed? 

Yes! E-bikes are allowed.

Which ride is best for a beginner? 

The Downtown Slow Roll is a great 10-mile ride for beginners. If you are looking for something different or slightly more challenging, See Spot Ride, Ride for Animal Rescue has a 10-mile option taking you through the scenic countryside. 

Which routes are most family-friendly?

The Downtown Slow Roll is our most family-friendly ride. For safety reasons, bicycles with training wheels are not allowed on any of our rides. 

How are the rides organized? 

All rides are self-supported meaning you carry all your own gear, plan your own route, and are responsible for your own safety, nutrition, and rest stops.

Is it a race? 

The Six Mile Creek Classic is a race, all other rides are festival style and are not timed.

Does the Six Mile Creek Classic use electronic timing?

 Yes, this race uses timing conducted by Big White Trailer.

Are the rides uphill?

See Spot Ride, Ride for Animal Rescue, Tour de West County, Six Mile Creek Classic (mountain bike ride) and Grape Escape Ride, will all have uphill riding.  

Is there official merchandise available?

Yes, there are official Lake Erie Cyclefest t-shirts and jerseys for sale from Erie Apparel

Are helmets required?

Yes, helmets are required for all riders of all ages for each event. 

What happens if there is inclement weather?
  • Rides will continue in light rain.
  • In heavy rain or storms/lightning, they may be canceled.
  • If canceled, the courses may still be set up and open to ride, but no event organizers will be present. Use your best judgment to determine if you should still ride.
  • Registration fees are non-refundable as they are considered donations to the nonprofits. 
Do certain rides have after party's?

Yes, the Downtown Slow Roll and Tour de West County both have after parties. The Six Mile Creek Classis has complimentary food and beverages offered throughout the day. See, Spot, Ride for Animal Rescue is being held at Port Farms Poverty Knob Brewery so participants of this ride will be able to purchase food and drinks there to celebrate, however, this is not an official after party.  

What should I bring?

We recommend you pack for comfort and safety. Some essential cycling items include:

Helmet – Mandatory for all riders, regardless of age or ability.

Bike – In good working condition; check brakes, tires, and chain.

Repair Kit – Spare tube, tire levers, patch kit, and a small pump.

Lights – Front and rear lights for morning rides.

Water & Hydration – At least 1–2 liters; bring a water bottle or hydration pack.

Snacks – High-energy foods like nuts, fruit, or granola bars for long rides.

Clothing – Moisture-wicking base layers, a windbreaker or jacket for cooler mornings/evenings, and sturdy cycling shoes.

Sun Protection – Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat for sun exposure.

Bring what you feel most comfortable wearing for the duration of your ride. 

When did Lake Erie Cyclefest Start?

Lake Erie Cyclefest started in 2017 benefiting EmergyCare, The YMCA and WQLN. Tour de West County started in 2005.
