Erie will host a diverse lineup of sporting events this weekend, including the Polish Falcons of America National Bowling Tournament, the Great Lakes Powerlifting Championship, the Kayak Anglers Shriners Team Challenge and the Rust Belt Showdown 3.
The Polish Falcons of America National Bowling Tournament returns to Erie for the first time since 2016, hosted by Nest 610. The tournament will be held at Eastway Lanes and will feature 176 bowlers and 44 teams. Team competition begins Friday, with doubles and singles events following on Saturday. Bowling will take place at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on both days, with the opening ceremony kicking off the tournament Friday at 9 a.m.
“This tournament is the only national bowling event hosted by the Polish Falcons of America, and we’re proud to bring it back to Erie,” said Scott Barnes, a member of the organizing committee. “It’s always special to unite our members in a city with such strong support for sports and community.”
The Great Lakes Powerlifting Championship, sanctioned by the 100% Raw Powerlifting Federation, is scheduled for Saturday at Sinai Sports. The competition will feature 65 lifters from New York, Ohio, Massachusetts, Florida and Pennsylvania. Doors open at 7:45 a.m., with lifting starting at 9 a.m. The competition starts with squat, then goes into bench and continues with deadlift.
The Kayak Anglers Shriners Team Challenge will take place Saturday, with a participant age range of 14 to 75, at Presque Isle Bay. Weigh-ins are conducted in real time throughout the day.
The tournament will feature 75 anglers. In addition to the individual tournament, a team tournament will be held at the same time. Anglers are traveling from across western and central Pennsylvania and from northeast Ohio, to participate with proceeds benefiting Shriners Hospitals for Children.
The Rust Belt Showdown 3, organized by Next Level Gaming, is a regional video game tournament hosted in the former A.C. Moore store at the Millcreek Mall, between Guitar Center and DICK’S Sporting Goods. The competition runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and will include more than 100 participants.
